Wife's got a 74 impala with a 400 in it, that is the only thing worth keeping, o and the 400 turbo trans. You could throw a cat throught the quarters of that car it's so rusrted, beside being UGLY. 168,000 on a 1974, I'd say her family got their moneys worth.

...and then some I would say...They must not have driven it very much. That's not a lot of miles on a car that old...

Prolly one of the ugliest cars ever built. But that many miles...thumbup.

Why a 400 sbc??? I'm not into the chevys, but if I were I'd be all over one of the newer LS motors verses the old small block stuff. They are making some great numbers with them, and they are relatively cheap.

Lol, i want to keep it oldschool, if an LS was used, a tuner would be needed, and a ECM, just trying to stay away from the computer controlled stuff. I could put my top end on a 400 and be good to go. I spent too much on the heads to just sell them for a loss. I try to be different, everyone is going to the LS motors, dont get me wrong, i would love to have one, but its all about working with what i've got.

Ummm stoker motors are all the rage now....lol I think you should stick with what you got and try and improve on the 350...400's are hard to come by and if your lucky enough to find one, you'll have to get it machined which if it has to be bored could easily cause over heating problems unless you are running a huge ass radiator. Also if you are determined to get a 400, look for a 2 bolt main 400 as the webbing in the 4 bolt mains is very weak and prone to cracking easier...plus I would recommend using custom pistons so you can run the longer sbc rod to get a better rod to stroke ratio. Also for what you'd have in the 400 you could buy budget stroker kit in it and be done..Of course if you like to wind out the motor you could drop a 350 crank in a 400 block and....wait why am I telling you this again???

400 with a 350 crank would make a nice and torqy 377!

Yes sir and you could rev the hell out of it as well...but then again it's up to you what you do...These are just some suggestions really...

Dude, that could be one of the gayest videos I've ever seen. :banghead: All that, and he never got on it. Yep, that's what I'd do. Spend all that money for twin-turbos, and then cruise around like a grandma. :screwy: That's about like building the hell out of your motor, and only making dyno runs. :lmao:

I know where there is a Chevy box van with a 406 RUNNING, for the sum of $700!!!!!! It has an alumnium box that could be used for scrap, then i'll take the rest to the crusher. 330817 2 bolt main, (preferred over the 4 bolts in the 400's), running, sweet!
