Looking for something stout for my 1998 Camaro as Chevy cant make a rear end for crap. I know that Ford 9" Rears and Danas are strong as hell. Does anyone know where I can find one at a reasonable price? Looking for a USED one as it will be cheaper. Dont care what gears are in it as I will most likely replace them. Thanks

You could prob beef up your axle's and center section for less than what you'd have in building the 9.... I'll ask around though:thumbsup:

Don't know your budget, but these guys do good work and the prices aren't bad for all that is included. Does your car have the "torque arm" setup?

I'd go with a 9" since there are plenty of people who make them for your car...The one that is listed in the link Nastenotch posted isn't priced do bad for a completely build rearend...

Nice website, its just barely above what I was wanting to spend so I think I can make it work. I appreciate it. And yes my car has the Torque Arm on it

When you say they break, what happens to them?

I personally have never broke one, based on most running 400hp or more and continuously beating on them claim they dont hold up well. I have had a couple that get really sloppy (Loose) on me. I intend to have 600+hp come next Summer (not this coming Summer). I am very abusive to my cars drivetrain. Just thought I would beef up the rear while I have the ability to do so.

Thats my question, what gives out in the diff?

I know most oem diffs/suspension and tire combinations are designed to spin, not hook...that is what keeps them alive.

Broken spider gears, stripped ring and pinion, busted posi-unit, broken axle...

so basically everything under the sun, lol.

Sounds like a weak casing, allowing the parts to shift, and causing damage.

Do they make/sell beefed casing, or other pieces that can control the amount of torque the case sees?

Shooting in the dark here.

They do make better casings. But Most Fords fix up under a Chevy rather well. I am no expert on rear ends nor have I ever changed one (just going by others testimonies). I believe the cheaper (and stronger) route is to go Ford. If I am wrong, please do inform me as I need some education in this field.

That looked like it started to wheel hop.

Ouch! Fact is, sometimes stuff breaks, even the "good" stuff. The 9" has good and bad points, but more on the good side. They are plenty strong, don't have the "c" clip to fail, allow quick gear swaps, parts are plentiful and reasonable, easy to work on. Biggest draw back, the pinion/ring gear orientation isn't as efficient as say an 8.8 (dana type), so it takes/uses up a little more horsepower. Once I get settled on a gear ratio, I may swap back to an 8.8 with 9" housing ends. You could look into an 8.8 with 9" ends for your camaro.......I'm sure someone offers those for your application as well.

Something in the rear end of my blazer failed, the back pass side dropped, looked in the rearview mirror and saw the wheel w/ axle still attached rolling across the road!! got it to the side of the road and the driver side wheel was about a foot out from the body where the axle was pulling out on that side.... it made me rather nervous! i think it was from all the power, you know that the 95 4.3 blazers are race prep from the factory!
